For many years Trankebar had been a burden on the Danish government and it was decided to sell the colony. In 1845 Denmark sold  Trankebar to the British for 12.5 lakhs of rupees. This was the end for Denmark as a small colonial power in India and the Christian VIII VI KAS 1845 coin is the last Indo-Danish coin.
