Overstrikes on leadcoins from Tranquebar
Overstrike coins are very thrilling to study. They can tell about
the sequence of minting. During the last 50 years many coins has appeared by
the waves attacking the coast in Tranquebar. Some of these coins especially
among the lead coins are overstrikes. For lead coins from Tranquebar from
Christian 4. and Frederik 3. so
many overstrikes has gradually been found, that ournowledge
of the sequence of minting is now rather good. But our
knowledge is not complete, so new overstrikes can still be of great help.
When you look at this list of overstrikes
it is striking how often a coin is struck on the previous coin in i Standard Catalog of World Coins by Krause and Mishler.
For example KM 37 on KM 36, KM 36 on KM 35, KM 35 on
KM 34 and so on.It is because the order in World
Coins to a great extent is based on the overstrikes, to list the coins in the
order of minting.
